DOCUMENTARY LETTERS OF CREDIT

A Documentary Letter of Credit is a guarantee from the issuer (i.e. issuing bank) to the beneficiary that the issuer will pay the beneficiary’s money when the beneficiary provides certain documents to the issuer in a certain manner, time and place. The letter of credit assures the supplier (beneficiary) that they will receive payment up to the amount stated in the letter of credit, provided that the beneficiary makes a compliant document presentation.



There are two Below types in Documentary Letter of Credit:

LETTER OF CREDIT AT SIGHT

  • A sight letter of credit refers to a document that verifies the payment of goods or services, payable once it is presented along with the necessary documents. This type of letter of credit is payable to the beneficiary once the required documents are presented to the financial institution backing the letter.


  • USANCE LETTER OF CREDIT

  • A usance letter of credit is a specific type of letter of credit that allows a predetermined credit period to the buyer. A usance letter of credit provides a deferred payment option to the buyer.
